Lawrence Licensing Board suspends nightclub, denies new liquor license over spacing rule.
Other Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026
Lawrence Licensing Board suspends nightclub, denies new liquor license over spacing rule. Commissioners Morales and Leon voted 2-0 to suspend a Park Street nightclub for seven days and fine it $600 after police found about 60 patrons inside three hours past closing, with the front door locked from inside; the club's closing time also rolls back to 11:30 p.m. for a week afterward. "If a fire happened there, how do you recommend 20 or 30 people dying in there?" one commissioner asked, while the other noted the business had no prior violations.
The board separately approved a manager change and license transfer for Cavallo Diner and Restaurant to new manager Rafael Guzman, and denied a beer-and-wine application from Luzon LLC for 76 Bennington Street, citing a 1,000-foot buffer rule adopted after a prior state appeal. Four other new business licenses, including two restaurants and two vehicle dealers, were approved without objection.
