Greater Lawrence Technical School announced that Superintendent John Lavoie has welcomed Tia Gerber as the school's new Workforce Development Program Coordinator. Gerber previously spent nine years as director of community partnership at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School.

The school said Gerber aims to identify new and growing opportunities within GLTS programs for both students and community members.

GLTS outlined three main components of its workforce development offerings: the After Dark Program, the Adult Technical Training Program and the Apprenticeship Program. Between October 2026 and August 2027, the school said more than 450 students will be trained across the three programs.

The After Dark Program allows students from sending schools without direct access to vocational education to take afternoon courses five days a week at GLTS, earning a vocational certification while completing their high school diploma. Courses offered include Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive Services Technology, Health Assisting, HVAC/R, Information Technology, and Welding and Metal Fabrication.

The Adult Technical Training Program is open to Massachusetts residents 18 or older who are unemployed or underemployed and intend to work full time in their chosen field after completing the program. The school runs three sessions a year and offers 14 program areas, including introductory courses in construction, welding, automotive technology, electrical, HVAC and plumbing, as well as advanced manufacturing for multilingual learners and basic solar installation and electrical training.

The Apprenticeship Program offers night courses in electrical and plumbing trades for students working toward trade licenses, helping them fulfill requirements to take the Massachusetts State Journeyman examinations.

Those interested in enrolling can visit the GLTS Workforce Development website or contact the program by email.

"I am thrilled to have begun my new role at GLTS, and I want to highlight the incredible team we have here," Gerber said. "My focus for the Workforce Development Program is to continue highlighting our wonderful programs that strive to expand the education of our students and community."
